A life changing decision was made in the midst of all the celebrations around me: christenings, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and even Christmas. Confiding such information to anyone would be the last thing i would do yet here i am, writing. For one can never really know what's going to happen. It's not everyday you tell someone that you're leaving for good and you'll probably wont see them. At least that's what I am being reminded of everyday by my parents. The 'undersized giant' they called me. For any big decisions I make define(d) me. I've been getting 'he's gonna go places' and 'he's gonna be somebody someday' from the moment I received a big yellow star in a pre-school filipino test. Well, I'm happy I haven't disappointed my parents yet. On the other hand I found myself surrounded with uneven eyebrows and squinted eyes from the seemingly unthinkable and unfavorable solution i came up with. I took the ASVAB test to be in the NAvy and passed.
It wasnt an original plan although it had come to mind during senior year. Joining was supposed to be a fallback in case i dont get into any colleges or get any jobs. After high school i got my license, finally, to practice pharmacy technician job. And joy, i got a job at Union City Kaiser! The very place I trained as an intern to be a technician. I had impressed the boss there without me knowing. The head of the pharmacisy team there consequently was the head of the Kaiser Hospital in the northern cali area. A woman i worked with everyday was a boss. The applications and interviews came soon after. Out of 25 new workers, 5 made it through. The interviews were overwhelmingly long. I got the ok and became an on-call pharm tech after that.
Every good news bears a bad news. That couldnt be more true to me because after that momentous day the economy crashes. My almost job freezes and disapparates like a bubble in thin air...
More bad news, my dad barely survives being laid off. He can only work 3 days/week now rather than the usual 5-6 days. Gas prices soared and the world seemed less secure. after months of doing nothing i told myself to just decide and stick with it.
Now I proudly serve our country's navy combat team as an HM or a hospital corpsman. After camp which is usually three months i get to decide what to specialize and ofcourse im gonna choose pharmacy as a speciality.
Upside is that i get to travel the world as i get shipped to different countries. New experiences always scare the crap out of me but i think that this is just another stage that needs trecking. Downside is that im away from friends and family and basically everything i know. comfort zones are gonna be hard to make. i hope booth camp isnt like freshman year.
